Jalisco Refrendo 2026: Cost, How to Pay, What is Included
The refrendo is the annual payment that keeps your car or motorcycle legal in Jalisco. Without it, your plates lose validity, you can't do other trámites, and you risk a fine if the traffic police pull you over.
The good news: in 2026, paying it includes free emissions verification. The not-so-good: the early-pay discount is gone (it ran January–February). But you're still in time to pay and avoid surcharges.

How much does the Jalisco refrendo cost in 2026?
The official cost comes from the Ley de Ingresos del Estado de Jalisco 2026. Heads up: the total you see in the portal includes three line items, not just the base refrendo.

Why does it say $1,100 and not $1,000? The extra $100 are mandatory contributions to Cruz Roja Jalisco ($40) and Hogar Cabañas ($60). They're not optional — they're already baked into the portal charge.
Early-pay discount (January–February): 5% off the base amount when paying online. That window already closed for 2026, but keep it in mind for January 2027.
What does the 2026 refrendo include?
Paying the refrendo isn't just "renewing the sticker". In 2026 it comes with three things:
1. Renewed registration card When you pay, the system updates the validity of your registration card. If you need the physical card, you pick it up on your next visit to the recaudadora (or it's already included if you did the 3×1 swap).
2. Free emissions verification all of 2026 This is the biggest benefit. If you paid the 2026 refrendo, you're entitled to verify your car at no cost at any authorized verificentro in Jalisco. You just have to book the appointment according to the calendar by plate ending (below).
3. Validity sticker / hologram The decal that goes on the windshield and confirms you're current. Traffic officers check it.
Important: In 2026 the refrendo no longer includes the plate swap. That was the 2025 3×1 Program. If you still have Maguey, Gota, or Minerva plates and didn't do the swap, that's a separate trámite — and the deadline to do it free is May 29, 2026.
How to pay the Jalisco refrendo 2026
Option A — Online (the easiest)
- 1. Go to gobiernoenlinea1.jalisco.gob.mx/serviciosVehiculares/adeudos
- 2. Enter your plate number and the last 5 characters of the VIN — both are on your registration card
- 3. The system shows the itemized amount due
- 4. Pay with credit or debit card
- 5. Save the receipt — you'll need it for the verification
Option B — In stores (no internet)
- You can pay cash or card at:
- OXXO
- 7-Eleven
- Farmacias Guadalajara
- Soriana and Walmart
- SET kiosks (there's one at Galerías Vallarta if you're in PV)
Bring: plate number and the last 5 of the VIN. The cashier looks it up in the system.
Option C — At the UNIRSE recaudadora
If you prefer in person or have a problem with the online system, go directly to the nearest recaudadora.

Once you pay the refrendo, you're entitled to free verification. Your turn comes by the last digit of your plate:

Did I miss my month? You can verify outside your assigned window, but in that case the verification isn't free — it costs $500 MXN within the year and $550 MXN outside the period.
What happens if I don't pay the refrendo on time?
There's no hard deadline in the year, but there are consequences for letting it pile up:
- Surcharges and fines: The system starts generating surcharges on the base amount. The longer you wait, the more it costs.
- You can't do other trámites: To do an ownership change, renew your driver's license, or get a provisional permit, the system checks that you're current on the refrendo.
- Fine in a roadblock: If a Policía Vial officer pulls you over and your refrendo is expired, they can write you up.
- You lose the free verification: The benefit only applies when you pay the 2026 refrendo. If you leave it for 2027, that year no longer covers 2026.
FAQ
Is the refrendo the same as the tenencia? No. Jalisco eliminated the vehicle tenencia in 2012 — that tax isn't paid here anymore. What you do pay is the refrendo, the annual fee to keep your vehicle's registration valid. People mix them up because other states still have the tenencia.
Does the 2026 refrendo include the plate change? No. In 2025 there was the 3×1 Program that included refrendo + verification + plate swap in one payment. In 2026 that no longer applies — the refrendo only covers refrendo and free verification. The plate swap is a separate trámite.
Can I pay the refrendo for previous years I owe? Yes, the system shows you all accumulated debts. You can catch up paying everything together, though surcharges accrue for overdue years. In some periods the government offers discounts on fines and surcharges to catch up — worth checking if one is active.
Can I pay at OXXO? Yes. You need your plate number and the last 5 characters of the VIN. The cashier looks it up in the system and gives you the receipt.
What do I need to pay the refrendo? Just your registration card (so you have the plate number and VIN handy). You don't need to go to any office if you pay online or at OXXO.
Do motorcycles also pay refrendo in Jalisco? Yes, but the cost is lower: $600 MXN. Plus, motorcycles are exempt from emissions verification, so that benefit doesn't apply to them.
Do electric vehicles pay refrendo? No. 100% electric vehicles are exempt from the refrendo in Jalisco.
