RFC
Registro Federal de Contribuyentes — Mexico's federal taxpayer ID issued by the SAT (tax authority). It identifies individuals and businesses. You need it to register in the SET (state finance) appointment system and to register a vehicle.
How to get it
Mexican nationals: get it free online at rfc.sat.gob.mx using your CURP and personal info. Foreign nationals: visit a SAT office with your CURP, ID, and proof of address. Your RFC certificate (cédula) is downloaded from the SAT portal.
